Honda's Carlo Fiorani told Crash.net that the dislocation was not serious and Marquez could have returned to the track in the final half hour of the session had it been essential. However, as he had improved his time prior to the fall, all-but guaranteeing his place in Q2, it was deemed wiser to visit the medical centre for checks.

However, Movistar TV, the Spanish television station, reported that Marquez suffered a bang to the head in the incident, and this was a reason for his transfer to the hospital. If it is judged that Marquez has some form of concussion, he would be unable to participate in the remainder of the weekend. He ended the session ninth, a place ahead of Dani Pedrosa
