Our friends from across the pond (yes you! The colonials!) in the US tell us of a minor stushie surrounding the new 2006 R6. The basic story is that the 17,500rpm redline trumpeted by Yamaha in pre-launch publicity is a little on the high side. The bike is, in fact, limited to nearer 16,200rpm, as measured on dyno tachos.
So Yamaha has written to all owners in the US, offering to buy the bikes back if they're not satisfied. Cunning customer relations? An attempt to head off a lawsuit from the most litigious nation on earth? A bit of both? Well, whatever it is, we reckon there won't be too many takers - JP's almost unhealthily happy with his long termer, and an over-reading tacho seems a minor point.
